OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
First Alliance Credit Union is a member owned and controlled financial institution providing personalized, competitve services that promote the economic well-being of our present and future members.
In 1932, during the Great Depression, the desperate financial needs of a new school teacher in Rochester prompted him and other city employees to establish their own credit union. Originally, only Rochester City Employees were eligible for membership (in 1932, teachers were employed by the city). Most of the original 7 members of the credit union were Rochester Fire Fighters.
On March 23, 1933, Municipal Employees Credit Union (MECU), was founded by seven Rochester City employees at the fire hall for the Rochester Fire Department. The original credit union office was located at the Rochester Fire Hall, with firemen entrusted to conduct transactions and keep the books up until the late 1960's. Until that point, only city employees were allowed to be members.
Our credit union has undergone one name changed since our inception in 1933. We were Municipal Employees Credit Union until 1996, when we became First Alliance Credit Union. With continued growth over the years, and a Community Charter which allows us to serve members in a five county area in South East Minnesota, we thought that First Alliance fit us better. Throughout the years, we have grown to serve over 13,500 members in 5 Minnesota Counties. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, shops, or attends school in Olmsted, Winona, Wabasha, Dodge and Goodhue counties.
First Alliance Credit Union is committed to the credit union philosophy of "People Helping People." It is this unwavering commitment that is the foundation of our continued growth and success.
"Excellent place to do business with. They really treat you like family here. It's a larger institution that gives you the feeling of personal, small town banking. Thanks First Alliance!" Todd W. of Rochester
